209 North Main Street - The Union Block (images: left to right, trolley photo ca 1890-1905 showing the Union Block on the left over the corner of the trolley, looking north at the intersection of Walnut and Main in 1905 with Union Block at front right, and a 1923 image from that same spot) At the northeast corner of Main and Walnut streets is one of the largest commercial buildings in downtown Kokomo, the Union Block. This landmark was built in the Italianate style in 1887, after a fire destroyed the 1860s-era Commercial Block (as it was known). It survives today with part of the center missing, also the result of fire. A jewelry store has been in the corner location for well over 60 years. Notable Design: Italianate Year Built: 1887
