1017. 703 W. Walnut - Center Gable Cottage

Center Gable Cottage/Free Classic c. 1900 This house retains many unique features such as wood shingle siding, a molded wood cornice running under the eaves, and the original door with angled sidelights. The porch here is quite unique with fluted columns and a balustrade, which extends down to the ground. (Free-Classic style architecture: (see diagram) this style is expressed in the Palladian center dormer window, pedimental porch line and window arrangement. It is a sub-type of the Queen Anne but has a more formal feel and is characterized by classical features applied to the asymmetrical massing of the Queen Anne house.)
