290. Staircase

(images: two turn-of-the-century exterior photos of the mansion showing the second floor keyhole window before it was bricked up) The stairwell leading up to the third floor was added for safety and accessibility while IU used the mansion for classes. The shadow left by the original railing can be seen at the right. Illustrations of the appearance both before and after the modification are located to the immediate left of the stairs. When the stairwell was altered, a keyhole window (similar to the window in the first floor dining room) was removed. The original stained glass from the window was saved and is now mounted in approximately the same position it occupied before the modification.
