1026. 917 W. Sycamore - American Foursquare/Free Classic

c. 1920 The square floor plan and Craftsman style front porch identify this house as an American Foursquare. However, the projecting gable with Palladian window in the attic level, and decorative work on the porch columns also identify this house as Free Classic. Other similar homes in the neighborhood indicate that this could be a catalogue home, or could have been built from a pattern book. (American Foursquare: Built between 1895-1930, this practical, economical style became one of the most popular in the United States. A variation of the foursquare house maintained the square, boxy shape but features a front-gabled roof rather then the typical hipped roof.)
